Joint Ventures in
Russia: Space Adventures Ltd.
Dr. Bill Belew
Issue IV - July 4, 2006
Introduction by Mr. Stolyarov:
Dr. Belew informs us of a new collaborative space tourism venture,
undertaken by Space Adventures, Venture capitalist firm Prodea,
and Russian aerospace firm Myasishchev Design Bureau. This is good news
for the development of private space flight; since SpaceShipOne made
history in 2004 as the first private manned space flight, extensive
capital has been invested into larger private space tourism projects. It
is good to learn that another such project is getting underway; the
opportunities for economic growth, improved transportation, and enhanced
leisure from private space travel are immense.
Space Adventures, Venture capitalist firm Prodea, and Russian
aerospace firm Myasishchev Design Bureau are planning to share their
science notes to build suborbital flight vehicles that can take you and
me into space.
Myasishchev will design and build the ships.
Vienna, Va.-based Space Adventures -- which has already sent three
tourists to the international space center since 2001 -- will do the
Prodea will beam up the necessary funds when required.
The spaceship is expected to hold 5 very very wealthy travelers who
have lots and lots of time on their hands to prepare for the trip.
If I were going to go into space, I think I would like to go on a
Russian spaceship. They have, by far, the best record of getting
everyone back that they send off -- one way or another.
