Asian Investment Trends:

Dr. Bill Belew:

July 4, 2006:

Dr. Belew brings us results of a Probitas investor survey on the most attractive regions in Asia to invest in. Japan is at the top of the list; it seems that Japan is finally out of a 15-year economic slump; globalization is a rising tide that lifts all boats, and the availability of new Asian markets has created higher demand for Japanese goods and services and hence an increased willingness to invest in them.

Joint Ventures in Russia: Space Adventures Ltd.:

Dr. Bill Belew:

July 4, 2006:

Dr. Belew informs us of a new collaborative space tourism venture, undertaken by Space Adventures, Venture capitalist firm Prodea, and Russian aerospace firm Myasishchev Design Bureau. This is good news for the development of private space flight; since SpaceShipOne made history in 2004 as the first private manned space flight, extensive capital has been invested into larger private space tourism projects. It is good to learn that another such project is getting underway; the opportunities for economic growth, improved transportation, and enhanced leisure from private space travel are immense.

Joint Ventures in Russia: Inchcape:

Dr. Bill Belew:

July 4, 2006:

The Russian marketplace is steadily being strangled by corrupt bureaucracy, statist government, arbitrary laws, and authoritative caprices. Dr. Belew writes of an automotive retail group, Inchcape, which seeks to expand its operations into Moscow. We should wish Inchcape well in bringing a piece of the free market to a statist country controlled by whimsical, capricious, and arbitrary bureaucrats. Let us hope that Inchcape has the fortitude and resolve to resist attempts by the bureaucrats to control and expropriate it; knowing the Putin regime, these attempts are certainly forthcoming.

Dr. Bill Belew:

July 5, 2006:

China is the number-one country in the world for producing Ph. Ds, but its academic system is afflicted by many of the same problems which plague traditional American universities. Dr. Belew writes about the problems with quality of teaching in China.

Asian Investment Issues: Potential Political Risk:

Dr. Bill Belew:

July 7, 2006:

Investment in China, India, and Japan may be lucrative, but it carries some definite political risks, writes Dr. Bill Belew. For the benefit of potential investors, Dr. Belew outlines what some of these risks are and how they could affect commerce even indirectly related to Asian countries.
